Tentacles are (somewhat) overdone, and reminiscent of certain adult productions from lands not Occidental, shall we say? (Is there another reason why we laugh when it appears that Slender Man’s intentions with Noah Maxwell seem to be mildly perverted?) This is terrifying. This is Slender Man with multiple fucking joints in each limb. This is basic horror from the old school. These are my feelings exactly on classic Slender Man manips and art from Victor Surge and others. Marble Hornets manages to hit all the proper chords within me in its own way, but the Slender Man images that still send chills down my spine are Victor Surge’s photos.  It’s the disjointed limbs, the multijointed limbs, and the asymmetry that he had sometimes. The live video series are great, but there’s a lot more you can do with drawn art or photoshopped art of the classic Surge images than you can easily do on the budgets the video series have. Precisely. Though even then, it’s the series that have obsessed over the tentacles that drive me up the wall. Even Marble Hornets and EMH have avoided that. Their tall, thin antagonist doesn’t have a multitude of tentacles going every which way. And that’s not to say I don’t appreciate Tribe Twelve. I do. It’s got a lot going for it. But the Slender Man involved therein has made me laugh just as much as it’s made me cringe, or jump.
